Winter Hours
December – April
Office/ Business Hours 10am – 4pm T-F
Winter marks the end of our open season at the Norlands. During this time, our dedicated staff are working hard on archival projects and planning for next year’s special events, so we do not have regularly scheduled tours or events. While our buildings are closed for the season, you are still welcome to visit our grounds and hike on our trails during daylight hours.
To schedule a tour in spring, please fill out the form below.
Discover the Washburn Norlands
The Washburn Norlands is a 400-acre estate that includes a stately Victorian country mansion with a farmer’s cottage, a gothic-style granite library, a Universalist meetinghouse, a one-room schoolhouse, an expanse of picturesque working farmland, historic carriage trails, and an expansive archive of 19th century documents and ephemera.

Who were the remarkable Washburns who built Norlands, led states and people, invented, explored, innovated and always returned home to Maine?
When you bring your class, camp, scout troop, or youth group to the Washburn Norlands Living History Center, volunteer and staff interpreters lead your students in an educational and historical experience as if it were the 19th century. Our educational school-age program is designed for history lovers of all ages. Each session is within the capacity of today’s learners and they gain an understanding of what life was like in this crossroads neighborhood of Livermore, Maine. Small groups participate in a variety of activities throughout the buildings on the Washburn Norlands campus.
Our videos were filmed during a family visit by Dustin Tribou – Saylorink Tatoo. Thank you!
