New at the Washburn Norlands Living History Center
A series of four guided nature walks are being offered at the Washburn Norlands from 10am – 12pm on the following Saturdays:
2026: November 7th
2027: April 3rd, May 1st, and June 5th
These walks are led by Marc Madore and Lynda Fournier, who are certified Maine Master Naturalists.
The first walk is held on Saturday, November 7th and features an exploration of trees and their bark along the trail to the overlook (one-mile round trip from trailhead with a 150ft elevation gain). As winter approaches, how exactly can trees be identified without their leaves? Come discover the trees in the historic forest on the Norlands property. Light refreshments available after the walk in the Farmers Cottage.
In the new year, when spring emerges, continue learning from our naturalists on the first Saturday of each month, April 3rd, May 1st and June 5th. Each walk is themed around a specific topic based on what plants show themselves among the old forests and fields.
Each walk will begin in the parking lot beside the Norlands church at 10:00am. Add-on meal options will be available for the spring series, so after the walk you can stay for a warm meal and a seasonal dessert. Stay tuned for more details.
Pricing is $6 per person, per walk or you can purchase all four at a discounted price of $20. These walks are ideal for all ages and will take place rain or shine. In the event of heavy rain, indoor nature activities will be planned. We appreciate you booking ahead but walk-ins are welcome.
There is no better place to learn about what lives in a Maine forest than the home of the Washburn family in this crossroads neighborhood of Livermore. This fertile soil is what drew settlers over a century ago to Maine. The Norlands is a unique place to immerse yourself in the outside world and our knowledgeable Maine Master Naturalists will help you to marvel at all the living organisms you’ll find. Come join us!
